The modern planning system is changing rapidly and no less so in the area of policy development, resulting in a whole new language and level of complexity. Yet the Government's aim is to engage much more through public consultation.

It is essential to have a clear understanding of the ways in which future planning policy for your area is being developed. The traditional Local Plan approach of identifying land for specific forms of development is giving way to a more 'spatial' format rooting in an assessment of needs at the regional level. The County Structure Plans are now giving way to Regional Spatial Strategies, and Local Plans becoming Local Development Frameworks.

Although scheduled to have been fully in place by 2007, the number of adopted LDF's remains low and there remains an opportunity to engage with your local authority in the plan making process.

We can assist with:

  • Participation on your behalf in council consultation meetings

  • Assessments of and submissions to draft Local Development Documents and Issues and Options consultation

  • Research and representations on Strategic Housing and Economic Land Availability Assessments

  • Formal submissions to the Inspectorate
